City As Its People: Giving a New Purpose to Expired Bank Cards

Banks collect hundreds of unused or unclaimed cards every day. But what happens when they expire? Unfortunately, recycling them is challenging in Bulgaria.

For years, DSK Bank has been developing its long-term initiative, “City As Its People” to solve problems in Bulgaria related to the quality of public spaces.

In 2024, DSK Bank decided to offer a solution to both problems and found a way to reuse thousands of old cards while maintaining their basic purpose—being useful and convenient. The “City As Its People 2024” initiative has repurposed over 7,000 expired debit and credit cards and transformed them into sustainable urban furniture.
