“Two Sides of Life” – photo exhibition and documentary series “bTV tells”

Like many African countries, Uganda is experiencing an education crisis. According to the World Bank and UNESCO, 83% of 10-year-olds cannot read or understand. Education is the main tool to reduce early marriages, pregnancies, school violence, high morbidity and mortality. To give visibility to these issues and to show life from the „other side“ – as it would be if education was not the focus of the family and the state – bTV produced two episodes of the documentary series „bTV Tells“ and organized the photo exhibition „Two Sides of Life“. The media told the inspiring story of Bulgarian volunteer Daniel Delibashev, who has changed the lives of hundreds of children by giving them access to education. Daniel realized his dream and built a school and kindergarten, starting with 3 children. Today there are over 300. Journalists Radiana Bozhikova and Dobromir Ivanov told Daniel’s story and the challenges faced by local people. The photographs are by Dobromir Ivanov and include authentic and touching images of everyday life. The exhibition was organized in cooperation with UNICEF Bulgaria, Sofia Airport and diplomatic missions that support the cause of the right to education and respect for basic human rights in Uganda. The two episodes were seen by 364 600 viewers in the widest age group (Data: All, 4+, GARB). The photo exhibition was visited by 271,414 passengers between 17 May and 16 June 2024 (Data: Sofia Airport).
