THE WORLD NEEDS SCIENCE, AND SCIENCE NEEDS WOMEN.
“The world needs science, and science needs women”. This is far more than a standard motto; it is a profound message to the generations of women who have yet to pick up a microscope. It is a message that the L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science program in Bulgaria has championed for 15 years to bridge the gender gap in STEM.
Over a decade and a half, the program has established itself as the most prestigious platform for scientific excellence in the country, investing €210,000 into 42 inspiring women whose work addresses the greatest challenges of our time – from life-saving medical innovations and sustainable energy to the prevention of global risks.
In 2025, marking the program’s 15th anniversary, the team at M3 Communications Group, Inc. developed a communication strategy designed to transcend the image of a traditional annual awards ceremony. We took science out of the laboratories and placed it at the very heart of society. Through Bulgaria’s first-ever Women in Science panel discussion, a large-scale outdoor exhibition in central Sofia, and high-impact media partnerships, we gave discovery a human face.
This campaign successfully shifted the narrative: moving from the perception of science as an academic abstraction to its acceptance as a shared societal value. By positioning women as visible leaders, we did not just celebrate a 15-year milestone –we ignited a future where brilliance has no gender and innovation knows no bounds.
