Shh

Shhh… was a cultural response by Sofia Film Fest to a moment of extreme polarization. After a far-right attack on Bulgaria’s National Theatre and escalating clashes between activists and artists, art itself became a battleground. Instead of choosing sides, Bulgaria’s biggest film festival chose silence. By reimagining the familiar phrase “Shhh. The film is starting.” as a cultural shield, the festival invited all extremes to sit together, stop shouting, and watch. In a world of noise, Shhh… restored cinema as a space for nuance, dialogue, and shared experience.
