The campaign “The [UN]FIXABLE: In Search of Workable Solutions” brought violence against and among children to the center of public and institutional debate. The title is a deliberate play on words: by isolating the “UN” in brackets, it rejects the idea that some children are “unfixable” and insists the situation is fixable – provided society works together. The occasion was a nationally representative survey on Bulgarians’ attitudes toward violence against and among children, initiated by the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation with ESTAT pollster. The data are alarming: Nearly one in three parents in Bulgaria reports their child has experienced violence from a peer or a younger child. Twice as many people under 35 have experienced violence from an adult compared to the 55+ generation, showing a real increase across the last two generations. Nearly 15% believe children provoke the violence against them, and two-thirds don’t know anonymous reporting of violent acts is possible. The campaign attracted government officials, the Ombudsman, experts, NGOs, and media to drive prevention, inter-institutional coordination, and a modern child-centered legal framework – because no child is unfixable, and every system can improve.
